Purple Dino Interview

If Greece had Vikings they would be from Northern part of Greece like Xanthi. Purple Dino are from there so, they are Vikings, seems legit. Also, on 15th of November, they marching for their first gig here in Athens and we are so excited.
How you feel for your first time in Athens Dinos?

It is awesome playing that far away from home for the first time, meeting old friends, making new ones.. Its also our great honor that Half Gramme of Soma invited us to their release show. We really need to thank them for this one!

Which are the big differences for you between a small city like Xanthi and Athens?

We dont think that differences exist between those two. Well, Athens is the capital of this country and that leads to the fact that the audience is way bigger. But people that love rock do exist in every single city across Greece, and the proof for this one are all the bands that are not from Athens, and create their own music, their own path through rock 'n' roll!

Purple Dino founded at 2013, tell us how all this started?

It all started as a jam rehearsal between the founding members. Since then we had some line-up changes, we found what we really wanted to create, and here we are!
For the people that never listened a song from you before, how you would describe your music?

Well, we would describe it as “heavy rock 'n' roll”. You will find some metal, blues, psychedelic influences in there, but .. Well, it's rock! Probably “alcohol fueled heavy rock” is the best way to describe it!
So, which are your influences?

There are so many, that I cannot possibly write them all down. Everyone has his own favorite genre. We have many in common, but we just like music. Yeah, we do love Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd (who doesn't?) but we also like downtempo, electronic music, death metal, psy trance and so on.. My personal opinion is that everyone should listen to anything. Even a few seconds of a different genre of music can offer you something!
In June 2014, the first full length album was released, named "Jurassic Bar”, how was the recording process

For the 3 of us, it was something new. Pavlos, Mitsos and I (Stef) have never done this before. Fortunately the other 2 have been through this again and again, so their help and guidance was more than welcome and helpful. It was fun. Even though we had to push ourselves to the limits from times to times, but that's life!
You think that the recording process affected from the limited options that Xanthi had for you or you wouldn't change a thing even if you were in the bigger studio in the world?

Well, I dont think the limited options were there because of us being in Xanthi. It's all about the budget, and how much you can afford spending on an album. Well, if we had the money we would probably change a thing or two, mostly in our sound. We were more than happy working with Stelios “Stelth” Koslidis for the album, we surely wouldnt change that. When it comes to the internet, you can work with anyone in the world. The only problem is that everything is costy, and there is no money, honey!

When the album released it was in wooden limited CD case. Who had that great idea? And how hard was to make them?

Actually the idea came from a very close friend. I personally went crazy hearing that. When we had the test copy in our hands we were sure that this is how it should be. As primitive as it gets! Well, its not hard. It just takes so much time. Every copy takes more or less 50-60 minutes to get it done.. Things got harder since we had a very VERY warm summer in Xanthi, and we had to do all that work in a place with 45 degrees Celcius, without air conditioning or windows open.. Anyway... :P
According your experience you think bands from small city’s have same chances with bands from big city’s here in Greece?

The problem for all of us (not in Thessaloniki or Athens), is that lives that match our sound rarely happen. They do, but its not that often as in Thessaloniki or Athens. When we ask someone to get to play in another city, the problem is always the gas money. Its not easy to get even that, so..

And the famous “Free Mode”, say whatever you want, Purple Dinos to end this interview! RAWRRR!

Thank you very much for your support Full Throttle (Radio Show)! Many thanks to everyone out there that supports the local scene, that including people that try to get gigs happen under difficult circumstances, people that attend and let that vibe exist! See you all very soon!
