RoadKillSoda Interview

I welcome Mr. Vava (Bass Player) to our music world! To be honest with you am writing this interview while am eating burger, drinking beer and listening the “Ties that Bind”. And I think that’s fine!! :D Let’s get started!!

In less than 2 months, that’s the second time that you will play live in a Greek venue, the first was in Fuzztastic Planet Festival and the second one will be at first Thessaloniki International Tattoo Convention, how you feel about that?

Well, first of all, hope you enjoyed your meal, must be over by the time I’m answering the interview :) Greece got out attention in a very good way, there’s a great vibe here and a solid stoner scene. Makes it a great place to come and play to.

Quite busy this year for you, isn’t it?

It actually is. We’re getting ready for a lot of surprises that I can’t reveal just yet. I can, however tell you that there is an album coming up this October, and that it has some huge achievements for any artist, not just an east European band. All will be revealed soon.

How many gigs are left till your vacations?

There is no holyday ahead! Just more and more gigs that will also be announced soon. There must be a tour to promote the upcoming album.

If someone hasn’t heard anything from you, how would you describe your music and which bands would you use as references?

I’d say that this is truly Rock’n’Roll. Attitude and sound, show and everything, there’s no holding back for us and those who saw us live know that. It’s the reason you could find Roadkillsoda playing as an opening act for Billy Idol or at the Rockstadt Extreme Fest, alongside tougher acts. Which bands, you ask? There is a lot of music and many influences between the four of us. You can’t even imagine some of the shit we listen to. For someone who doesn’t know where to place us, I’d suggest the stoner / grunge area.

This October you will release your new studio album. How hard was the process of making it?

It’s been interesting, as usual. We don’t do this kind of stuff the way it’s usually done. For example, we never get together to rehears and this time was no exception. We got together at the studio that we chose, in Bucharest, and just got together, drank something, eat something and jammed around the 18 tunes we were aiming to record... and that we never played before hahaha. At least some of us. Just 3 days later, the tracks were recorded. It followed a longer process, with the voice and mixing & mastering. All in all, making this album kept us busy from March till August. But it is incredible and there’s nothing we would change.

Which are the big differences between the new album and the latest release called “Oven Sun”?

It’s a better, more mature album. It is way longer, it takes time to bring you to the highs and the lows. I think it also shows how well the 4 of us got used with each other. There is more understanding of how your band mate chooses to express himself. As a result, the sound and the whole singing got better. We got to work with some unbelievable people and as a result, we got a production exactly the way we wanted. I can’t wait for it to get to our fans.

You are from Bucharest, how is the underground scene there?

The underground scene, as a whole, is great. There are many great bands and some fair ideas. The clubs are not so great, from my point of view. There are only a handful of really great places to play. Then, again, I had the chance to play a festival in Toronto, and the venues there were way lower than expected. So, I guess it’s all in the eyes of the beholder. As for the promoters, there are a handful of really great ones, that made possible serious gigs & festivals in Romania. They really placed us on the map.

What advice would you give to fellow bands?

Trust your guts. Know your game. Find yourself real mates to play along with. Be realistic about you and your chances, but always dare for more; never settle for “it’s ok”. It must be GREAT.

The last section its “Free Mode”, you can say whatever you want to end this interview, from our side we want to wish happy married life to your guitarist Mihnea Ferezan "Panda Elixir".

Thank you, the wedding party was a monster :) As for me, I’m happy to be living the dream alongside great people. We’ll see you on 21st, at the first Thessaloniki International Tattoo Convention
