The Right Place To Start The Summer

Summer is coming! So how would you like to hail it with the sound of some world-class rock & roll? How would you like to meet the 2015 Summer Solstice banging your head off to the sonic bacchanalia of Swedish stoner outfit Truckfighters, British punk-pop hooligans The Subways and US desert rockers Valley Of The Sun (to name but a few)?

Interested? These are the names of the headliners at this year’s edition of indie festival Voinegovtsi Wrong Fest, a young and ambitious music event held just a few kilometers north of Bulgaria’s capital city Sofia. The third edition of the two-day festival will traditionally take place on the 20 and 21 June in the laid-back atmosphere of suburban village Voinegovtsi.

In addition to a solid line-up of domestic and import stoner, alternative, psychedelic and punk acts, including Greek rock & roll demigods Planet Of Zeus and Balkan ska jesters Popa Sapka from Romania, the venue offers a wide array of outdoor activities, suitable for all ages and at least two species. Food, beverages and a free camping opportunity are also in the pack. And if you’re still not sure, let’s talk numbers. Does 20 euros for a Full Festival Pass sound about right? Surely, such a price would induce suspicion among reasonable people, though they’d be surprised to find out there’s no scam: The Wrong Fest is the brainchild of a bunch of enthusiastic music lovers, struggling to boost Sofia’s image as a cultural destination and as a home for many talented underground artists, who largely remain unknown. Such enthusiasm is often deemed quixotic, or, in the context of socioeconomic recession, wrong - hence the name of the enterprise.
